Gary Clark Jrs gear and equipment including the Dobro Hound Dog Deluxe Roundneck and Epiphone Elitist 1965 Vintage Casino. It sounds like Epiphone accidentally made a great guitar in the Inspired and quickly discontinued it. I've seen some interesting Youtube comparissons between the Elite and Inspired By Casino. You can see Gary Clark Jr brandishing his unique Flying V in the below performance of Pearl Cadillac from Saturday Night Live. None of my other guitars have quite the same mojo. The Gary Clark Jr Flying V has its neck pickup flush against the fretboard, like the Gibson 330, and, notably, soap bar-style P90 pickups as opposed to the dogear pickups of his 330 and Casino guitars. This guitar also seems to be picky about which amp it runs through. I also notice that it is really light and seems kind of delicate for a guitar of its size (I think real Casinos and the Elite C are 5-ply bodies and the MIK and MIC are 3-ply, but I haven't seen anyone compare the thickness of the two). The modern pickups are too hot for a hollowbody guitar. I hang it up for months and grumble about it, but take it down occassionally and fall in love all over again. ![]() I've changed the nut, tuners, bridge, electronics, pickups and still go back and forth about whether I like it or not. ![]()
